Chen Wenling

Chen Wenling was born in China at Anxi in the Fujian district; the place of birth will strongly characterize his art based on common subjects and forced by the strong colors of chinese tradition. He graduates at the Accademy of Fine Arts in Pekin; in 1991 he realizes as a student, his first personal exhibition: "Woodcarving Show" at the Accademy of Art and Design of Xiamen. Between 2001 and 2006 he partecipates at different collective exhibition such as The International Biennale of Pekin in 2003 and realizes other personal exhibitions in China, which the most famous is "Red Memory" held in Pearl Bay Beach in Xiamen, where the red, colour of memory, gives life to fragile figures that recalls his childhood and the longing for the past. He exposes often outside China; in Belgium for the exhibition "China-Belgium, Contemporary Sculpture"; in Italy at the Vecchiato Gallery in Padova within the collective "Made in China" and at Seoul in Korea for the Chinese Contemporary Art's exhibition, "Grounding Reality". His sculptures, shaped with different materials, from bronze to fiberglass, represents almost exclusively a chinese simbol: the pig, portraits in different situations and linked to different figures; simbol of a culture placed between present and future and a society that keeps changing through the years. Another main figure is the fish-woman,also linked to the chinese tradition and it is an image of prosperity and richness. At present Chen Wenling lives and works between Xiamen and Pekin.
